The European Parliament recently voted to repeal visa-free travel for American planning to visit countries within Europe Union. This is in response to a recent U.S. rule requiring that citizens of five European countries obtain visas to enter the U.S. Up until now U.S. citizens could travel within Europe without a visa.
The countries affected by this rule are Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Poland and Romania. United States is not the only country to impose these rulings. Australia, Canada, Japan and Brunei had imposed similar protocol but this policy was changed after Europe expressed serious concerns.
The European Commission discovered three years ago that the U.S. was not meeting its obligations but had not taken any legal action. The vote was approved by a Plenary Commission of the European Parliament giving the Commission two months to take action before the European Court of Justice.
This measure could result in the present administration’s decision to impose visa requirements for visitors from the European bloc.
