Governor of Texas Pledges to Ban Sanctuary Cities

Several cities throughout the United States and in the state of Texas are operating as the so-called “Sanctuary Cities”. Austin could be the first official city in Texas pledging to remain a sanctuary city for illegal immigrants. The Governor of Texas is threatening to enact harsher laws and reduce funding to police departments that promote sanctuary to illegal immigrants.

The main feature of these cities is that the police and municipalities cannot question the people of their immigrant status. Furthermore they do not cooperate with the immigration agencies in cases of detention or deportation of undocumented immigrants.

In many cities of Texas where the Hispanic communities continue to grow and expand, the police are more tolerant to undocumented immigrants however, Gov. Abbott has promised to block money to sanctuary cities in Texas and president-elect Trump has pledged to cut off federal funding to sanctuary cities across the country.

Before filing any application with the Immigration Agencies such as USCIS, it is important to consult with a licensed attorney, authorized and experienced in handling cases before these agencies.
