Immigration Reform to include Merit-Based Visas and Border Wall

A document sent recently to Congress by President Trump with his vision of immigration reform includes extending the wall along the Mexican border and a merit-based system of granting visas.  Visa applicants will face increased fees.

Provisions will also be added to expedite the repatriation of unaccompanied minors from Central America who enter the country without authorization, and the hiring of an additional 10,000 immigration agents and 300 new federal prosecutors.

The document suggests limiting the number of Green Cards issued to spouses and minor children of legal residents in favor of establishing a points system for people seeking permanent residence in the US.

This latest proposal sent to Congress does not make any mention for a solution of the approximate 800,000 undocumented young people who entered the country and were protected by the DACA program, which Trump has planned to end as soon as possible.
