Green Card Lottery Ends November 7

Every year millions of people have the chance to submit entries to have a chance at one of the 55,000 diversity immigrant program visas that provides a path for foreign nationals to become permanent residents of the United States

, regardless of whether they have a family member or an employer willing to sponsor them and obtain green card status in the U.S. This entry period which began on October 4, 2016 ends today November 7.

Individuals who are selected will be eligible to enter the U.S. together with their spouse and children under the age of 21, during the 2018 fiscal year, starting October 1 2017 through September 30 2018.

Among the countries that were excluded from eligibility due to being considered high admission nations were Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, and Dominican Republic because more than 50,000 natives of these countries immigrated to the United States in the previous five years.

5, 000, of these visas were reserved for immigrants that apply under NACARA (The Nicaraguan Adjustment and Central American Relief Act) which covers, among others, countries such as Cuba, Nicaragua,  El Salvador and Guatemala.
